Stephanie Grilli was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, namesake of the glass-manufacturing city in Belgium, and grew up blocks away from the major town employer, the Corning Glass Factory where family members worked. After getting her BA in art history from the University of Pittsburgh, she went on to Yale University where she was awarded a PhD.

Her career in teaching included Bucknell University, the University at Texas at Dallas, and the University of Colorado at Denver, and her academic writing on the Pre-Raphaelites was “Noted with Pleasure” in the New York Times Book Review.

Currently living in Denver, Colorado, Grilli is an independent art historian, writer, and curator. She has profiled numerous artists, who are featured at her website artscribe.net. In 2012, she co-curated Taos Contemporary, an invitational exhibition of 56 artists, at the Center for Visual Arts, Metropolitan State University in Denver.
