- Sculpting and
Mold-Making: Basic 1
- w/ Delinda VanneBrightyn
-
- VanneBrightyn takes you
through the process for two types of two-part rubber molds: a
brush-on mold and a poured mold. With these skills, you can replicate
wax copies of your original sculpted art work. Making rubber
molds saves time, enabling you to easily recreate multiples,
allows alteration to each wax copy creating variations of the
original, or enables you to have a back-up in case something
goes wrong in the casting process. The wax copies can then be
used to cast in glass, bronze, or other metals. Once your wax
copy is poured, we will discuss proper preparation for the casting
process of your choice. You will learn what you need to pursue
this process in your own studio or to be able to utilize the
mold-making section of the TIGA COMMUNITY ACCESS STUDIO with
minimul assistance.

Shadow Casting

a ghosted, shadow casting within the glass. This technique can
be used to realize either a simple or complex array of imaging
in glass. Each box casting can be stand alone works of art or
utilized with other castings, combined in a final work of art.
The entire process from concept and sculpting to mold preparation,
firing schedules, and casting is explored and realized by the
student.

design in glass. The basics of kiln forming, from types of glass
and molds for slumping to firing schedules, will be explored
through discussion and samples. Students will come away with
two fused and slumped glass plates and will accomplish the fundamentals

- Lost Wax Closed-Mold
Casting in Glass
- w/ Delinda VanneBrightyn
-
- Cast your sculpture in
glass utilizing the ancient technique of lost wax combined with
current technologies of glass and modern-day refractories. You
will learn how to make a layered refractory mold, venting techniques
for successful casting, and calculating amounts of glass needed
to fill a closed refractory mold. Students will have hands on
experience in all aspects, including wax sculpting, making and
drying the mold to ready it for casting, wax melt-out, and proper
preparation of the glass for casting. Discussions in understanding
different types of refractory materials, how the glass fills
the mold, combining and designing color within the work, and
determining firing schedules will be forefront in this workshop.
